Alleen Morehead Peffer, 87, of Reliance, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. Alleen will be remembered for her compassion, honesty, kindness, and generosity marked by the dedication of love, both in her personal life journey and professional endeavors.
Born on May 12, 1938, in Roanoke, Virginia, Alleen was the daughter of Danial Clayton Morehead and Mary Francis Morehead, both of whom preceded her in death.
On April 30, 1960, Alleen married Robert H. Peffer, embarking on a partnership that would last a lifetime. Alleen found joy in her role as a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother to John Wayne Cox and cherished her time with her four great-grandchildren: Austin Cox, Dakota Cox, Molly Cox, and Dallas Cox. Her family was a cornerstone of her life, and she was deeply devoted to them.
Her professional career was spent as a diligent finance accountant and secretary for the Corps of Engineering, where she devoted 20 years of service before retiring in 2000. Her commitment to her work and the people around her was evident throughout her career, and she took pride in her contributions to the organization.
Alleen was a master of the garden, she found immense joy and peace in cultivating and preserving bountiful harvests shared generously with family, friends and neighbors. Alleen taught us that patience and a little tending can yield beauty from the smallest seed.
Alleen was a lifetime devoted member of the Reliance United Methodist Church. She served on the RUM Women's Auxiliary and held various volunteer roles. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Wanda Alleen Peffer. She is survived by husband Robert Harris Peffer, daughter Brenda Peffer Cox, Grandson John Wayne Cox, 4 great grandchildred and her two sisters Genevieve Morehead and Sandy Walker (Morehead).
A private graveside service will be held to honor and celebrate Alleen's life at Reliance Cemetery in Reliance, Virginia with Reverend Dr. William "Bill" Wade officiating.
