Barry Sweitzer Obituary

Barry J. Sweitzer, 90, of Edinburg, VA passed away Thursday November 13, 2025, at Life Care Center in New Market. A private graveside service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church. Friends and family are welcome to sign the guest book at Valley Funeral Service anytime between 9-5 until November 25th.

Mr. Sweitzer was born on September 22, 1935, in York, PA. He worked as an Engineer for the Highway Department and was also a Bus Driver for Rockingham County Public Schools. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Hamburg Ruritan Club. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis (Bebe) Mantz Sweitzer; parents, Houston and Mildred Sheetz; daughter, Jackie Pence; and granddaughter, Michelle Swartz.

He is survived by his sons, Jody Swartz (Bill), Mike Swartz (Lori); grandchildren, Tara Pence, Andy Pence (Allie); and great grandchildren, Aidan, Aeson, and Ashwin Pence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hamburg Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 66, Edinburg, VA 22824. Online condolences may be left at valleyfs.com

Arrangements are in the care of Heishman Funeral Home, Inc. Valley Funeral Service Branch, Edinburg.

I met Barry thru bingo nights at VFW in Edinburg. He was a delight to talk to and shared many memories. Especially of his wife who he missed enormously.
RIP Barry, it was a privilege to have known you.
