Catherine Funkhouser Obituary


Catherine Riddle Funkhouser, 93, of Broadway VA, passed away January 8, 2024, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg VA.

She was born August 28, 1930 in Shenandoah County to the late Joseph R. and Irene Olinger Riddle.

Catherine enjoyed being a housewife, tending to her flowers and watching and feeding birds. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.

On October 10, 1958 she married Richard L. Funkhouser who preceded her in death on August 19, 2013.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Funkhouser and wife Sue of Broadway, sisters; Peggy Fink of Bergton VA, Zelda Whetzel of Bergton VA, brother; Hoyt Riddle and wife Donna of Broadway and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pastor Jeff May will conduct a memorial service 11:00 am Saturday, January 13 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church of New Market.

Per Catherine's request her body was cremated.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt Zion Lutheran Church Perpetual Fund, C/O Frank Runion, P.O. Box 54, New Market, VA 22844.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
