Catherine Gilbert Obituary

Catherine "Cathy" (Provo) Gilbert, 68, of Mount Jackson, Virginia, died on June 23, 2023, in hospice care at Charlottesville, VA. She was born March 17, 1955, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Robert and Sue Provo. She is survived by her husband, Randall "Randy" Gilbert; their daughter Michelle Bechtel, with husband Chris, daughter Ella, and son Grey; their son Tim Gilbert; and their daughter Debbie Wolf, with husband Mason, and daughters Honor and Serenity, and son Logan. Cathy is also survived by her 9 brothers and sisters.

The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to all who prayed for Cathy. She ran a good race and has been the most amazing child of God, wife, mother, and grandmother; plus one of the best teachers ever. She wants everyone to know that Jesus has a special place in heaven for her and she looks forward to welcoming you there someday.

Cathy was the first recipient of the Excellence in Adult Education Award.
A special thank you to Sharon Hetland, director of the Laurel Ridge Community College Adult Education Program for naming it the Cathy Gilbert Excellence in Adult Education Award.

The family also extends their appreciation to all those at UVA Hospital who so diligently tried to remove the cancer, and especially to those at the Piedmont Hospice center who so caringly made sure Cathy was as pain-free and comfortable as possible through those difficult weeks.

The family invites all of Cathy's friends to her memorial "Celebration of Life" service, at Windhaven Church in Mount Jackson. It will be July 15th, at 11 am, followed by a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to:

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. The people of the Valley, especially the Spanish-speaking folks, are fortunate that the Lord gave us Cathy. I worked with Cathy years ago, teaching English as a second language.

Cathy was so supportive when we starting the Free Clinic. I always appreciated the many ways she tried to help. She will be missed.
