Charles Roy Madagan, a beloved family man and cherished member of both the Middletown and Reliance community, passed away peacefully at his home on October 10, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born on August 21, 1934, in the Pine Hills of Stephens City, Virginia, Charles was the son of the late George Edward Madagan and Hadie Frances Mills Madagan. Charles proudly served his country as a surveyor as well as a Mores Code operator in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957, an experience that instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he returned home to help take care of his mother and siblings.
He first worked in construction where his skills were utilized in the building of Interstate 81 and Dulles Airport. He then worked and retired from FMC/Avtex Fiber Corporation after 42 years of service. All of this was to afford him the ability to pursue his passion for farming. Tending to his garden, the cutting and bailing of fresh cut hay and the welcoming of the spring calves gave him a sense of accomplishment beyond words. It is a testament to his dedication to hard work and the simple joys of life.
Charles found immense joy in the company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life. Throughout his days here on earth, Charles was known for his kind heart, warm hugs, infectious smile and his commitment to his family.
On September 7, 1959, Charles married Lola Marie Meade Madagan, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Charles was deeply devoted to his wife until her passing, and his love for her remained a guiding light in his life.
Family was everything to Charles. He is survived by his children, Charles Allen Madagan, Roy Elsworth Reed, and Tamela Madagan Brzezinski, all of Middletown, Virginia; his grandchildren, Carrie Plummer (Timmy ) of Winchester, VA, Charles Reed, Clinton Reed, and Colton Reed, all of Middletown, VA, Kala Brzezinski of New Hampshire, and Mackenzie McCullers (Connor) of Winchester, VA; great grandchildren, Isaiah Reed, Ella Plummer, Emersyn Plummer and awaiting the arrival of baby boy McCullers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He truly loved and cared for his family, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Madigan, Dearmont Madigan, Patrick Madigan, Stuart Madagan, Robert Madagan and John W. Madagan, Virginia Patterson, Marie Carter, Dorothy Clark, Emily Franklin Hawkins, Ida Musser, and Phyllis Athey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making donations in his name to Blue Ridge Hospice, Middletown Firehall, and Reliance United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held for family and friends, honoring the life of Charles, at Reliance United Methodist Church, on November 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
