Elmer "Curtis" Delawder

Elmer "Curtis" Delawder, 79, of Basye, passed away January 14, 2025, with his family surrounding him. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00am at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg, VA. Pastor Rodney Lebron will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Curtis was born November 7, 1945, in Basye, VA, to the late Marie and Elmer Delawder.

On June 4, 1966, he married Elizabeth May Mumaw, who survives.

Curtis retired from the US Army after serving his country for 22 years and 22 days. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and a lifetime member of The VFW Post 2447. While serving in the Army, he found a passion for accounting and tax services. Later, he opened his business, Delawder's Tax and Bookkeeping Service, in Basye, and became an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. After his retirement from the Army, he was employed as a sheriff's deputy for the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office. After years with the sheriff's department he decided it was time to retire again. He kept his tax business open until the end, serving many clients, businesses, and organizations throughout the State of Virginia.

He wanted to let you all know that "He is FINALLY RETIRED."

Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Brock Delawder, of Basye, and Shane (Calissa) Delawder, of Jerome; his grandchildren Courtney Stillwell, Dakota Delawder, and Dinah Delawder; his great-grandchildren Jeffrey Bright Jr., Kaylee Bright, Zora Delawder, and Ivan Bright; two bonus grandchildren, Caitlin Martin and Axel Martin. One sister, Linda (Darryl) Gutshall; three brothers James (Pam) Delawder, Terry "Roy" (Joni Saylor) Delawder, and Perry "Troy" Delawder; sister-in-law, Cheryl Delawder; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Teddy Delawder.
