Michele Smith Obituary

Michele Annamarie Kagey Smith, 57, of Edinburg, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center. A Celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Woods Chapel Independent Bible Church in New Market. Pastor Glen Turner will officiate.

Mrs. Smith was born August 18, 1967, in New Jersey, daughter of the late Ralph W. Kagey and Delores Ann Hansberger Kagey. She was a 1985 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, a 1992 graduate of Triplett Tech as a Licensed Practical Nurse and a member of Mt. Jackson Moose Lodge.

Michele is survived by her husband of 40 years, Beverly (Bev) Smith whom she married on October 5, 1985; her children, Ryan Smith (Heather) of Bridgewater, Brittany Smith of Richmond and Mary Bair (Chris) of Mt. Jackson; brother, Michael Kagey (Lora) of New Market; ten grandchildren, Drew Binion, Julia Binion, Drake Bair, Jaelynn Bair, Danika Pieratt, Joshua Power, Brantley Peake, Bruno Patterson, Kylan Smith and Millie Smith; nieces, Leigha Kagey, Lacey Kagey; and nephew, Lukas Kagey.

She was preceded in death by her three eldest sons, Matthew, Bryan and B.J. Smith, whom she has dearly missed for many years.

Michele devoted her life to caring for others. She treasured her family and friends. Michele always put the need of others before her own. She worked tirelessly as a nurse and then later as an Assisted Living Administrator. For 33 years Michele provided nursing care in several specialties; obstetrics, private home care and spent the majority of her career taking care of the elderly. Michele touched the lives of patients, families, and staff at Life Care Center of New Market, Lynn Care Center, and Skyline Terrace Nursing Home and Memory Lane Assisted Living. Michele's selflessness continued at death through her gift of organ donation. Her endless compassion has comforted many lives. Michele will live on in the hearts and minds of many.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Skyline Terrace Nursing Home and Memory Lane Assisted Living, Re: Activity Department, 123 Lakeview Drive, Woodstock, VA 22664.
