Randolph Beeman Obituary

Randolph Beeman of Strasburg, Virginia, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, on his 85th birthday, at his home in the presence of family.

In honoring the request of Mr. Beeman, services and burial will be conducted privately.

Mr. Beeman was born March 4, 1937, in Meridian, Mississippi, one of seven children to the late John Ivy and Ora Rhodes Beeman. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps for ten years retiring as Staff Sergeant. Mr. Beeman was an active member of the VFW Post 1860 in Front Royal for many years and served as a former Commander and was a current member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.

He and his wife were the owners and operators of Rocky Lane Grocery on Route 340 south of Front Royal for 27 years. His wife of 44 years, Mary Jane Beeman, predeceased him in December 2005.

Mr. Beeman had a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and there wasn't a topic in which he couldn't converse. His conversations could span physics, astronomy, gardening, automobile manufacturing, and anything and everything in between. His career in electronics had many opportunities including working at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD supporting several space programs.

He is survived by his son, Ralph C. Beeman of Lexington, KY; four daughters: Melissa Beeman Gildea and husband Michael, their two sons Eyon Lewis (wife Lauren) of Herndon, VA and Ian Gildea of Norfolk, VA, Kay Lynette Beeman of Australia, Sharon Beeman Oakes and husband, Ricky, and their two daughters Hannah Scates (husband Booth) of Strasburg and Danielle Oakes of Front Royal, VA, Vega Beeman McMurray and her husband, Seth, and their four children Joseph Ziemer (wife Arielle) of Tempe, AZ, Jacob Ziemer of Fort Drum, NY, Ryan McMurray and Jessica Ziemer of Strasburg, VA. He is survived by four great grandchildren, who brought him immense joy along with his sister, Faye Miller and brother, Larry Beeman.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, 157 E. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657.

I worked with Randy at Goddard. I started there when I was 17 and he was a mentor to me. He led me on a path to lots of success in taking television from an analog to a digial world for me personally and I'm still benefitting from what I learned from him in Engineering aspects and so on. He was ncie enough to let our team back in the day to come out and use his canoes, walk around his sotre and such. I consider him to be a major building block in who I am today. I procrastinated coming out to visit hom, and well, here I am now sorry I didnt get to say goodbye. This photo is the first time I saw him without his mustache. rest in Peace dar friend. God bless you and all of your family.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of your father/grandfather, Randy. What an honor it was for me to have known him and to have had so many in-depth conversations with him about the universe. He was such a distinguished gentleman...an absolute gift to humanity. He will not be forgotten!
