Jewell Huitt Matthies Obituary
Jewell Elaine Huitt Matthies, 72, of Lamesa, died Thursday, October 9, 2025 after a long fought hard battle from Parkinson, she is no longer suffering She is now home. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 AM until 9 PM at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 PM at Myers & Smith Chapel with brother Jeramy Chapman of Cornerstone Fellowship of Lamesa officiating.
Interment at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, TX.
Jewell better known as Elaine, was born to Charles and Ora Huitt on September 3, 1953 in Big Spring. Then raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, Eva and Lloyd Arnold. Jewell attended Forsan schools and graduated from Big Spring High School with the class of 1972. As a young woman she worked cleaning homes and beauty salons. After marriage and starting her family, she devoted her life to being the best mom, grandmother and homemaker she could be. She married Bert D. Matthies on January 15, 1988. Elaine always kept in touch with her family through her phone calls and also by sending cards out for just about every holiday or special occasion. She was also always there and willing to help others out. She enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening and playing board games. She was an avid wrestling fan, particularly her favorite wrestler, John Cena. Elaine attended 1st assembly of God, and Grace fellowship, and church of God churches. And made sure to tell us all that we were prayed up. And saved. And she loved us ALL. And she loved Jesus very much!! Anytime we'd ask to pray or her to pray for us she was willing to do it. Elaine is survived by her husband, Bert; her daughter, Kristi; grandchildren, Haley, Robert III, and Vivaan; her siblings, Eva Chappell (Buck), Ronnie Huitt, Roger Huitt, and Rodney Huitt (Suzanne); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Huitt and Ora Hamlin Huitt; her maternal aunt and uncle, Eva and Lloyd Arnold; three sisters, Darlene, Charlene, and Brenda; a niece, Pamela Kennedy; and a great-nephew, Michael Chappell.
Pallbearers for the service will be, Johnny Chappell, Buck Chappell, Erik Munoz, Robert Gonzales, Karl Dugger, Shawn Dugger and James Carson; honorary bearers will be Jesse Padilla.
