Thomas James Donnelly of Strasburg, VA died on October 24, 2025.
He was born November 7, 1932, in New York City to Thomas J. Donnelly and Mary (Moran) Donnelly in Knickerbocker Hospital. He was the eldest of four sons, including Vincent, James, and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James; his daughter, Susan; and his brother, Vincent.
He attended Manhattan High School and Manhattan College, graduating after his military service obligation with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1956.
He proudly served from 1953 to 1955 in the U.S. Army with the 4th Infantry Division, 22nd Infantry Regiment. Thom served most of his time in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cold War.
On August 10, 1957, he married the love of his life Adele Fanning in Staten Island, N.Y. They were happily married for 68 years. They had five children and raised them in the Catholic faith and educated them in Catholic Schools. Thom and Adele sacrificed much to educate their children within the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. They had five children: Mary (James Seidleck) of Crofton, MD, Susan - dec. (Dr. Charles Levine) of Red Lion, PA, Thomas Jr. (Isabel) of Ellicott City, MD, Noreen (Edward Keane) Berwyn Heights, MD, and Patricia (Daniel Holt) of Silver Spring, MD. They had thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They raised their family in Bowie, MD and retired to Fort Valley and Strasburg, VA.
Thom enjoyed the sport of Ice Hockey and passed that enjoyment onto his son, Thomas, Jr. He was a founding member of the Bowie Hockey Club, first drafting post-game press releases and promoting the sport with local television stations, then coaching for the first 10 years after its founding.
Thom donated his body to MedCure for medical research, organ transplants, etc. MedCure will cremate his body. A Catholic Memorial Mass and life celebration will be scheduled in the future. His ashes to be interned at the Veterans Cemetery in Culpepper, VA.
