Thomas G. Gibson
Thomas George Gibson, 73, of Boyce died Wednesday at his home.
The funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville. Burial will be private.
Mr. Gibson was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Milwaukee, son of George and Mildred Netzow Gibson. He received his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin and his doctorate from Princeton University. He was a research scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey and Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History for 30 years. He was a professor at George Washington and Howard universities, serving as first chairman of the geology and geography department.
Surviving are a son, Steve Gibson of Herndon; two daughters, Karen Irwin of Bethesda, Md., and Amy Jones of Fairfax Station; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shenandoah Conservatory, 1460 University Ave., Winchester 22601.
Arrangements are being handled by the Royston Funeral Home in Middleburg.
