Thomas Maphis Obituary

Thomas P. Maphis, of Stephens City, VA, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 20, 1949, in Winchester, VA. His parents, Geneva and Ben Maphis, preceded him in death.

Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pam Maphis; his two sons, Brian Maphis (Sarah Kirby) and Robert "Bobby" Maphis (Sarah Goodman); his brother, Jerry Maphis (Karen Maphis) of Chester, VA; two nieces, Kathy Maphis, Diana Vaughan (Mark); and one nephew, Ben Maphis (Kristine); and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1969 and served in the United States Army in the Army Security Agency. He retired from Mount Weather in 2008. Tom enjoyed many hobbies like fishing, metal detecting, dancing at the Back Room in his younger years, and he loved to cook. Tom was also a ham radio guy with call number KI4HAT. Tom worked at Winchester Rescue Mission for many years helping those in our community and was a Mason brother for the lodge in Strasburg.

A memorial service will be held for Tom on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with the first half of the service to be used for sharing memories. Officiating will be Pastor Kent Woodward. Burial will be at a later date in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tom to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 - a charity close to Tom's heart as he loved children.
