Giles Thompson Obituary
Freeport - Giles Morris "Chip" Thompson, Jr. passed away July 5, 2021. Chip was born in Valparaiso, Florida on January 21, 1963.
A Navy brat and emerald coast native, he spent much of his childhood in Key West and Destin. His love of water, boating and fishing defined his life. He was a commercial fisherman, Merchant Marine Captain, Coast Guard veteran and most recently Dockmaster at Freeport Marina.
Chip was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Wilkinson Thompson. He is survived by his father, Captain Giles M. Thompson (USN, retired), his sister Melissa (Thompson) Pelz, brother in law, Oliver Pelz, nephews Roy Pelz, Henry Pelz, William Pelz; his very loyal and adored Golden Retriever, Ginger, and many close friends and cousins.
A celebration of Chip's life will be held at Freeport Marina (621 Marina Village Blvd, Freeport) at 2 pm, Tuesday July 13, 2021. Family and friends are very welcome.
In lieu of flowers, Chip had requested that donations please be made to St Jude Hospital.
