Wright - Marian Elizabeth Brown Smith Sturrup, formerly of Galliver, Florida, age 96, passed away February 21, 2021 at North Okaloosa Medical Center after a short illness. Marian was born September 14, 1924 in Penn's Grove, New Jersey to William Randolph Brown and Verna Stiles Brown. After graduating from high school, Marian married Jennings Bryan Smith. As an Army wife, she moved with her husband to Atlanta and Jacksonville. Upon his retirement, they made their home in Galliver, Florida. There, they raised their five children. After Bryan Smith's death, she married Reginald Sturrup in 1993 and lived in Wright, Florida. Marian worked as a beautician at Eloise's Beauty Shop for many years. Marian was active in church activities at Pilgrims' Rest, Baker First Baptist, and Shalimar Baptist. Marian was active in Eastern Star.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frank Brown; both husbands; one grandson, Daryl Bryan; and one great grandson, Rowan Box. She is survived by her children: Donna Erdman (Robert), Janet Bryan (Ronnie), Martha Stant (William 'Wes'), Stanley Smith, and Mary Lollie (Gene). She is survived by twelve grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 5 till 7 pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chuck Poplin. Interment will follow at Milligan Cemetery.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the family requests mask be worn, and social distancing observed. Gloves are optional.
