Alice Jean Wagner
Born: April 1, 1939 in Woodstock, IL
Died: August 4, 2021 in Green Bay, WI
Alice Jean Wagner, 82, of Seymour, Wisconsin, formerly of Marengo, Illinois, passed away on August 4, 2021, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
She was born on April 1, 1939, in Woodstock, Illinois, and was the daughter of Jesse Wrisley and Rose Caroline (Gritmacker) Hemmingsen.
On February 6, 1960, Alice married Richard Charles Wagner at Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, Illinois, who passed away on April 5, 1988.
They had three children, Robert Charles (Dawn) of Union, Illinois, Laurene Ann of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and David Jesse (Cheryl) of Seymour, Wisconsin, three grandchildren, DeAnn Marie of Madison, Wisconsin, and Cindamon Marie Proffitt (Michael) of Marengo, Illinois, daughters of Robert & Dawn Wagner, and Ezekiel of Seymour, Wisconsin, son of David & Cheryl and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Rose and Emma Marie Proffitt of Marengo, Illinois, daughters of Cindamon and Michael, two sisters, Phyllis Naugle (Charles) of Rockford, Illinois, and Patsy Knake (the late, Harold) of Marengo, Illinois and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, Illinois, and had lived in the Marengo area most of her life, moving to Seymour, Wisconsin the last 6 years with her son, David Wagner.
Alice was a graduate of Marengo Community High School and attended one year of college at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.
Alice worked many years at the bakery that used to be on Main Street in Marengo, then went on to work at the Marengo Public Library when the bakery closed. At the Library she worked in the local history and genealogy department for many years. She gave several talks on genealogy and participated in local cemetery walks.
Alice enjoyed working on her family genealogy and taking many research trips with family and friends finding new information and was a founding member of the McHenry County Illinois Genealogical Society. Alice also enjoyed bowling, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, making many beautiful items for her family and others.
Alice also enjoyed being able to call herself a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, in Woodstock, Illinois on Friday, August 13, 2021. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am, with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am, Graveside Service with interment at the McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, Illinois following.
Memorials can be made to the McHenry County Illinois Genealogy Society in her name, P.O. Box 184, Crystal Lake, Illinois 60039-0184.
