Born: Feb. 13, 1955
Died: May 16, 2014; in LaGrange Park
Celia A. O'Brien, age 59, of LaGrange Park, passed away after a courageous 22 year battle with cancer on May 16, 2014 at her home. She was born on February 13, 1955, the daughter of Robert F. and Anne (Canny) O'Brien. Celia spent her entire life teaching in McHenry County Schools. She was a very skilled seamstress and enjoyed cooking and traveling.
She is survived by her brothers, R. Christopher (Karen) O'Brien, Thomas (Barbara) O'Brien and Paul O'Brien. Also surviving are her nephews, Robert and Charles O'Brien; and nieces, Elizabeth and Katherine O'Brien.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, William O'Brien.
The visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home and Crematory, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will continue Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home with prayers said before continuing to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington, McHenry for the 11:00 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will be in St. Patrick Countryside Cemetery.

Mrs. O'Brien was my 5th grade teacher at South Elementary (i am now 37 years old)....she was one of the very FEW people that made an impact on me during my elementary school years. She was always willing to go the extra mile for us and help in any way should could. I can't believe she is gone, but NEVER forgotten! My condolences are with the O'Brien family during this difficult time. She will definitely be missed!

I worked with Cele for several years at South and North Elementary Schools. She was a caring, funny and genuine friend. I will always cherish the memories of our dinners together at Round the Clock restaurant as well as many other times spent together. I give my condolences to the O'Brien family at this difficult time. Cele was a very special person and I will never forget her.

How fortunate I was to work with Cele for a number of years at South Elementary, where we were like one big happy family. If it hadn't been for Cele and her patience a couple of us would never have passed our stats class! We had a blast meeting and studying together with her as our tutor. She was a talented, caring, fun loving friend and teacher. I will forever keep the memory of Cele in my heart. My condolences to the O'Brien family on their loss.

Cele and I worked together at South Elementary School for a number of years. We had some memorable dinners together with a mutual friend at "Round the Clock" restaurant. She was a wonderful person, had a witty sense of humor and was a great friend! Heaven just received its newest angel.

I first met Cel when we were both young teachers at North Elementary. She was always smiling, always proud of her students, and always in love with her profession of teaching. Cel also made me a brightly colored skirt that went throughout Europe with me. She was an excellent seamstress. Rest in peace, Celia, and my condolences to the O'Brien family.
