Cynthia Jean Pflug, age 63, of Johnsburg, Illinois passed away at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois on May 2, 2021. She was born in Melrose Park, Illinois on September 7, 1957 to Elmer "Bud" Pflug Jr. and Marion (Credity) Pflug.
Cindy lived her entire life in Johnsburg, Illinois. She is a graduate of Johnsburg Grade School and McHenry High School in 1975; a 1979 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in Education and Psychology. She earned her master's degree from Concordia College in 1994. She began her teaching career at the Johnsburg Junior High in 1979 and spent most of her career teaching third grade at James C. Bush Elementary School in Johnsburg. Cindy loved teaching and her many students over the years. She was still in touch with many of them and enjoyed keeping up with their lives. Cindy retired from teaching in 2014.
Cindy enjoyed spending time at the family's lake house in Northern Wisconsin, where she spent countless hours playing with and spoiling her nephews and nieces. She was a talented crafter and found enjoyment in baking and cooking. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served on the board of education and made many good friends in the ladies Bunco Group and Book Club.
She is survived by her siblings: Kathleen Ponitz, Elmer "Bud" (Julie) Pflug III, Ruth (Charles) Mullen; nephews: Joseph (Sarah) Ponitz, Adam (Carrie) Ponitz, Michael (Stephanie) Mullen, Timothy (Madeline) Mullen, David (Ashley) Pflug, Stephen Pflug, Daniel Pflug, and Nathan Pflug; great-nieces and -nephews Sydney, Felicity, Max, and Ayden Ponitz; Theo Mullen; and Evie and Sarah Pflug. She is predeceased by her parents Bud and Marion Pflug and brother-in-law Glenn Joseph Ponitz.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles Miller Rd., McHenry, IL from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue Friday, May 7 at Zion Lutheran Church located at 4206 West Elm Street, McHenry, IL 60050 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. A graveside service to follow.
In accordance with public gathering restrictions, attendees are expected to wear a mask and observe social distancing. The funeral home staff will monitor capacity limits and allow up to 50 people in at a time.

Cindy was an amazing woman. She touched so many lives with her genuine smile and thoughtfulness. I feel blessed to have had the chance to be friends from childhood through adulthood. She will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to the family.

I had the privilege of introducing Cindy to Jesus in Jr high. She accepted him as her Lord and Savior on a church group trip we took to Texas. I will see you in heaven dear friend!
