David A. Rampe, 73, of Crystal Lake, died Thurs. April 10, 2025 at home. He was born Jan. 11, 1952, in Wooster, OH, to David Sr. and Winifred (Mayers) Rampe. David was a U.S. Army veteran and attended University of Wisconsin. After a successful sales career with Follett Library Resources, with territories based in Illinois and later Washington, he returned to Crystal Lake where he worked for the United States Postal Service until retirement. Following retirement he volunteered at both Centegra Hospital in McHenry and Crystal Lake Public library. Over the years he enjoyed a variety of hobbies: reading, skydiving, scuba diving, flight lessons and riding his bicycle. He was a devoted and loving uncle to Alex and Katie, a loyal friend and a very supportive son and brother. He is survived by his siblings, Dan (Paula) Rampe, and Nancy (Jay) Adami; and his niece and nephew, Katie and Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Matthew. A visitation for David will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

In the "old days" we were neighbors of the Rampe Family in Colby Subdivision in Crystal Lake. In recent years, I often ran into Dave at the CL Jewel or library. I always enjoyed catching up with Dave on life, family, mutual friends and his enjoyment of volunteering for the library. Recently I realized it had been quite a while since I saw Dave and I wondered how he was doing. I was so sad to read of his passing. I will always remember him as a nice guy, and I wish I had known him better. My thoughts are with Dave's family at this difficult time. He will be missed.

Dave and I worked together at the Wonder Lake Post Office, where he retired from in 2015. I am grateful for the opportunity to have gotten to know him. He was a great coworker, dependable, honest, kind, full of knowledge and compassion, and he loved his family. I don´t think a day went by that he didn´t talk about Katie and Alex. I´ll miss the get togethers that some of us coworkers had with him several times a year. My condolences to Nancy, Dan, and his family. Rest in peace my friend.
