Dawn Rettig Obituary

Dawn E. Rettig
Born: January 1, 1963
Died: July 24, 2021
Dawn E. Rettig (58) of McHenry, IL passed away at home on July 24th surrounded by those that loved her most.
She was born in Chicago to William and Vivian Krieg and grew up in Prospect Heights. Dawn married Jeff Rettig in February of 1993 and had three daughters who were the loves of her life, along with six grandchildren and one on the way.
Those that knew her, loved her. People were drawn to her glowing personality. She enjoyed all things social and loved to serve and volunteer her time for others. To say she was a selfless friend, mother, sister, Mimi and wife is an understatement. Dawn had a passion for gardening and cooking; there was beauty in everything she created. Family and friends will never forget the vacations spent with her as she loved to travel and went to many beautiful places. The fun memories of her are countless. She'll be remembered as the life of every party with an unforgettable smile and laugh.
Dawn is survived and loved by her husband, Jeff Rettig, her children Jamie (Greg) Cline, Sandy (Carl) Allabastro and Kaylie (Mick) Kaywood, her grandchildren Connor Allabastro, Kourtney, Caleb, Amelya, Adelyn, and Payton Cline, and her siblings Gary (Jenny) Krieg, Kim (Phil) Maggio and Scott (Jen) Krieg. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Vivian Krieg and younger brother William (Billy) Krieg Jr.
A celebration of life will be held for Dawn on Friday, August 20th at the McHenry Country Club (820 N. John St.) in McHenry, IL from 3 to 7PM.

I just found out about the passing of Dawn. I knew Dawn from her sister Kim. We all use to have so much fun at our job in McHenry (Dobyns House). She was always such a bubbly person who worked so hard at what she did. God bless the whole family and find healing in his Word.

Dawn,

I can not begin to describe the complicated emotions that overtook me when I received news of your passing, it's been very hard for all of us hallmark friends to accept this. It's been since around your accident since I've seen you, and thankfully less time since we last chatted. We've spoken of you a lot in the last week and foraged for all the memories we could think up of the "good ol days". Of your gift wrap guru skills, your constant positive vibe you brought to every job, the collection of wonder women pins you and Carol and the girls shared to deem you as some of the best we had to offer. But it wasn't just you being the best at gift wrap, or some of the quickest or hardest workers- it was just the sheer essence of your down to earth personality that helped make every job one worth a good memory. You were already a pro when I came to the installation team and when I started leading jobs. I had a slew of people to look up to, to learn from- everything from leading, to fixtures, paperwork, emails... but you taught me something I struggled with at first. You taught me how to relax and enjoy the job even more, and how to be able to depend on my team to help me get it done. There were many times I worried silently in my head about the size or scope of work we had ahead of us- but you always walked in calm and collected and brought an ease to the job, carried on fun and inclusive conversation, and brought laughter and smiles to us all. I carry that simple lesson with me to every job and remember each time to make sure that everyone coming gets to have that same experience. It's been different since you left, since Carol N retired, and just the big changes life has taken us through to different directions. It will never be the same as it was having you there- and I'm happy for it and happy to get to hold onto those precious treasured memories with the rest of our group. I will still strive to make work fun for everyone- in your honor and because you truly helped me believe that life is worth the smiles of those around you every day. Carol S, Nikki and I will wear our Wonder women pins with pride and keep your memory alive here with us. I wish you much peace and happiness, send much love to your family and all others who were blessed to meet you. I couldn't have asked for a better friend, or role model! Much love to you Dawn- Meghanne

As Dawn´s older brother, I was privileged to enjoy many joyous memories with her and the rest of our immediate family including Thanksgivings, Christmases and so many more. There is no doubt that she brought a bright and gifted spirit wherever she went. What I miss the most about my sister is her ability to selflessly do for everyone and want us to have the most enjoyable experience possible. On a personal note, I feel her loss greatly. I love you "Miss " and I´ll see you again.

Although I knew Dawn for 15 yrs, the event of the recent few years is what bonded us in friendship as I was honored to help her through a difficult injury. I still cannot believe she's gone.

Rest In Peace my sweet friend. You were a champion. A fighter. A woman of great value. You were respected. And you were loved. You will be sorely missed and remembered with a soft smile forever.
