Donald Novy Obituary

Donald E. Novy
Born: March 5, 1935 in Chicago, IL
Died: September 11, 2025 in Wilson, NC
Donald E. Novy, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Wilson, NC. Born on March 5, 1935, in Chicago, IL, Donald's life was defined by his unwavering kindness, love, and the joy he found in the simplest of pleasures. Donald's journey began as a native of Chicago, where he was born to Charles and Blanche Novy. He grew up in a loving home, a foundation that would guide the rest of his life. Donald's educational pursuits led him to Northwestern University, where he honed his sharp mind and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. His faith as a Christian was a guiding light throughout his life, deeply influencing his actions and interactions with those around him. For 69 beautiful years, Donald shared his life with his beloved wife, Dorothy (Midge) Novy. Together, they built a family that was his pride and joy. He was a devoted father to his son, Jeff Novy, and his wife, Deb, of Bailey, NC. His legacy continued to shine through his granddaughters, Jessica Decker and her husband, Kevin of Clayton, NC, and Tiffany Taylor and her husband, Matt of Zebulon, NC. Donald's heart swelled with love for his great-grandchildren, Karlee and Josslyn Decker of Clayton, NC, and Shelby and Charlotte Taylor of Zebulon, NC. He also leaves behind his nieces, Mary Bonner and her husband Wynn of Winterhaven, FL, and Sandy Brandt of Kemah, TX, as well as many cherished cousins, extended family, and friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents, his son David Novy and his daughter Linda Novy but he remained a beacon of strength and comfort to his family. A man of many talents and interests, Donald enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, a skilled woodworker, and a passionate photographer. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks, and he never missed a chance to root for his alma mater, the Northwestern Wildcats. However, it was his family that brought him the most joy. Donald was a true renaissance man, embodying the qualities of being loving, kind, and handy. His hands, heart, and mind were always engaged in the act of creating and caring. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Donald's life was indeed a testament to success, as he touched many lives with his gentle spirit and generous heart. Donald E. Novy lived a life that was full and meaningful. He made the world a better place simply by being in it, and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Wilson, 1901 Tarboro St. SW. Suite 301, Wilson, NC 27893. Arrangements are in the care of Providence Funeral & Cremation Service 519 Broad St. W. Wilson, NC 27893.
