Gail Ann Longaker, 64, a longtime resident of Crystal Lake, died November 5, 2018 at River View Rehabilitation Center in Elgin. She was born August 20, 1954, in Chicago, to Anson D. and Marjorie E. (Surridge) Longaker.

Gail was educated in Crystal Lake public schools and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1973. She then enrolled in several educational programs prior to beginning her career. For over 20 years, Gail was employed in Chicago as an inside claims adjuster at Home Insurance Company.

Following her career in the insurance field, Gail was employed at Jewel Osco in Crystal Lake for over ten years. Always taking pride in her work, she received a number of commendations for her professionalism and exemplary customer service.

Gail loved her family and was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was warm and outgoing, and made many friends throughout her life. A natural athlete, she played tennis competitively and was an avid golfer in addition to participating on bowling and baseball teams. Gail also enjoyed photographing flowers, farms, and sunsets as well as diverse settings in California, Arizona, and Florida while traveling in those states.

Gail is survived by her father, Anson, of Knoxville,TN; her sister, Jane E. Levy, of Knoxville; her brother, David S. (Anna Mae)Longaker of Glenview; her nieces Amy B. Stevens and Sarah A. Busse, both of Knoxville; her nephews, David A. Longaker and Thomas J. Longaker, of Glenview; and great nephews Griffin A. Busse and Andrew D. Busse as well as great niece, Madeleine E. Busse of Knoxville.

Gail was preceded in death by her mother.

A private graveside service will be held at St. James the Sag Cemetery near Lemont, IL.

I was saddened to learn of Gail's passing. I had the honor of knowing Gail when she was a student at Crystal Lake High School, and I was a teacher. She was a terrific person.

The love and joy that Gail brought to those around her is something I will forever miss and treasure. She was such a caring and thoughtful person and never forgot an important date in your life. She made everyone around her feel special when in her presence. I will always remember her sense of humor and kindness towards others. She loved her career and the people in her life, especially her family. I feel all of us were blessed to have been graced by her presence in our lives with her big heart and caring personality. It truly is the mark of wonderful parents - whom she adored. She loved and look-up to her sister and brother, along with their children throughout her life as well. I feel she enjoyed our friendship and that of my family throughout her lifetime as we did hers. Extending deepest sympathy for you all in your loss and hoping too, that comfort and peace may come to you. She will be deeply missed.

My sympathies to all who knew and loved Gail.Gail and I became friends when we were confirmed together at the first Congregational Church in Crystal lake and became life long friends thereafter enjoying sports and our love of family.Gail had the best sense of humor and was a fierce competitor and natural athlete in her younger years. She had a wicked sense of humor which I will always treasure.Rest easy my friend....and farewell...wishing you safe harbors and shelter from the storms.
