Geraldine H. Smith (nee Myszkewicz), age 81, of McHenry passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her daughters.
Born August 2, 1935 in Chicago to John and Stephanie (Mamola) Myszkewicz. Born and raised in Chicago and relocated to McHenry in 1969. She enjoyed raising her children and being a wife, mom and homemaker. She also was employed in various administrative positions. Geri loved music, Chicago sports especially the Chicago Blackhawks, listening to books on tape and spending time with her family.
Geri is survived by her four daughters, Dianne (David) Detloff of Robbinsdale, MN, Terry (Jeff) Preiser of Cudahy, WI, Michele Ann Smith and Kelly Ann Johnson of McHenry, IL; brother, John (Danna) Myszkewicz of West Chicago, IL; and six grandchildren, Matthew (Jaycee) Detloff, Andrew Detloff, Samantha Preiser, Maggie Johnson (Mike Ulrich), Riley Johnson and Hailey Johnson.
In addition to her parents, Geri is preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her daughter, Kathleen; sister, Dolores; and brother, Ken; and many other loving family and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Journey Care Hospice for the care and support during these difficult days.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Patrick's Church at 3500 Washington St., McHenry, IL 60050. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Interment at St. Patrick's Countryside Cemetery in McHenry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or to St. Patrick's Church will be appreciated.

Aunt Geri, thank you for showing me the meaning of love for family, love for God, and always having a smile (and a funny joke to tell), no matter what obstacle life throws at you. You will forever hold a special place in my heart and I love you more than words could ever say.
