Helen Schmidt Obituary
She was born June 12, 1924, in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., to Frank and Mary Geitner. She married Roland W. Schmidt on Aug. 22, 1953. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2000.
Helen was a pharmacist's mate 2nd class as a Wave in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in Bethesda, Md., and Seattle.
After her service, she returned to Sturgeon Bay and then moved to Milwaukee, where she met Roland. They married and had a daughter, Susan Sweinberg. Helen worked as a beautician and as a clinical assistant for the city of Milwaukee before she retired.
She loved making crafts, playing cards and bowling.
Helen moved to Illinois and lived in Barrington and Cary to be closer to family and doctors.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Ken) Sweinberg; three granddaughters, Lindsay, Nicole and Christine; a brother, Clarence Geitner; three sisters, Jean (Ed) Owen, Rose May and Lucille Temby; and many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Roland; and three brothers, Everett, Joseph and John Geitner.
The visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday, March 2, until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at St. Veronica Church, 4001 S. Whitnall Ave., Milwaukee. Private interment will be in Southeast Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations to be made to St. Veronica's Church for memorial masses or Family Center Hospice in Illinois.

To Helen's family, I was very blessed to know her. Helen's laugh will be greatly missed. My son, Joe was very fortunate to have been able to keep her lawn trimmed when she lived here in Milwaukee. She is a great lady!
