John Bolger Obituary

Died: Sept. 10, 2015
John "Jack" Bolger, 79 of Gilberts, died peacefully on September 10, 2015.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15th at St. Mary Catholic Church-10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home -10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to St. Mary Catholic Church- Huntley.
John was born February 5, 1936, in Chicago to Joseph and Katherine Bolger. He served in the United States Army Reserves and graduated from DePaul University in 1968. Jack coached the Portage Park Swim Team from 1959 to 1975 before he became the head coach of the Northwestern University Men's swim team. He remained in that position until 1985 when he accepted a position as coach at Palatine High School. Jack married Jeanne (Nee.Trapp) Fuller in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Fuller-Bolger; his former spouse, Erika Johnston; his children, Kerry Bolger, Kevin (Jennifer) Bolger, Colleen (Jeff) Middendorf, Fred (Mary) Bolger; and by Jeanne's children, John (Melissa) Fuller and Michael (Ursula) Fuller; and by his 7 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephew;s and brother-in-law, Ray Hemzacek.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Joan.

Just fond that he had passed... Swam for him at Portage for years... during the New pool and the inside pool. Swam with Erika. It was so long ago....

The best coach I ever had at any level! I missed him after he left Portage Park. It was great seeing him years later at Leaning Tower YMCA.

Jack was a competitive man. But a man who would help any swimmer or water polo player who asked. His smile will be missed RIP.

Jack generated enthusiasm and encouragement for fellow Champion swimmers on the great Fenwick Swim Teams in the 1950's for outstanding swimmers Dr Bill Scanlon, Dr John Morrissey, Mike Niec and me. He inspired all of us to swim our best under the guiding eyes of Coach Dan O'Brien, master motivator of winning teams. We all learned that hard work is a way to a meaningful and successful life. Jack, you've won gold again!
