Kathleen A. Ponitz, 67 of Marengo passed away Friday, May 6, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born September 22, 1954 in Melrose Park the daughter of Elmer and Marion (Credity) Pflug. On May 28, 1977 she married her loving husband, Glenn ("Joe") Ponitz at Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry. Kathleen worked for Techalloy for 37 years as a quality control technician. She was an avid Chicago sports fan always cheering on the Cubs, Bears and Bulls and she also found time to garden, attend craft fairs, and loved life with her cherished family. Kathleen was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo. She was a kind and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Joe (Sarah) and Adam (Carrie) Ponitz; grandchildren, Sydney, Ayden, Felicity, and Max; great-grandson, Brantley; brother, Elmer (Julie) Pflug; sister, Ruth (Chuck) Mullen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2018 and her sister, Cindy Pflug.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11 from 4-8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson Street in Marengo and continues on Thursday from 10 am until time of service. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Marengo City Cemetery. Memorials can be made in her name to Zion Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society online at: www.cancer.org. Deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences to 'Buddy', Ruth and the whole Pflug and Ponitz families. I knew Kathy from McHenry High School, as we both played French horn in band, we went to Homecomings together, while Deb (Adams) knew her from GAA and was in the same class of '72! Yes, seems like a long time ago, yet I remember the kind, caring and fun Pflug family, as I was invited to watch Buddy's Junior High basketball games, attend Christmas Eve services at Zion Lutheran, and to many dinners and celebrations at their home in Johnsburg. Kathy's dad and mine hit it off as both Sergeants were proud vets from WWII. And now Kathy along with her late husband, her sister Cindy and both sets of our parents have opened new eyes to their heavenly home! Blessings to all memory eternal until we meet again!
