Leigh Schroeder Obituary

Leigh Ann Schroeder
Born: March 3, 1953 in Belvidere, IL
Died: August 15, 2025 in Barrington, IL
Leigh Ann Schroder, 72, of Union, IL, passed away on Aug. 15, 2025. She was born on March 3, 1953, to Kenneth and Maxine (Ball) Raddatz in Belvidere, IL. In 1971, she graduated from Marengo High School, entered the workforce and was married. Leigh worked at Central Grain, followed by Warner Electric, both in Marengo, IL. She spent 29 years at Family Alliance in Woodstock, IL, as a secretary and transportation director. Leigh welcomed her son Travis in 1981, and her grandson Cole in 2013. Cole was the light of her life, and they loved each other dearly. Leigh loved music, learning to play the piano and the organ in her youth. She didn't like playing for a crowd, but she would play for herself or her family. Leigh was a devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Union, IL, all her life. She eventually served as president, then vice president of the church council, including on the search committee for a new minister. Her church meant everything to her; she was baptized, confirmed, and married in the church, and her church family was very important to her. Leigh was loved by everyone who got the chance to know her. Her friends loved her like family, and would do anything they could for her. Leigh is survived by her mother, Maxine Raddatz; her son, Travis Behrens; her grandson, Cole Behrens; and many cousins, neighbors, friends and church family. Leigh was predeceased by her father, Kenneth Raddatz; and her grandparents, Clarence & Helen Ball and William & Amanda Raddatz. A visitation for Leigh will be held on Sat., Aug. 23, 2025 from 11am-12:30pm at St. John's United Church of Christ, 17824 Jefferson St., Union, IL, followed immediately by a memorial service at 12:30pm. A luncheon will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can made to St. John's United Church of Christ.

Yesterday

I first met Leigh when joining the staff at Family Alliance in Huntley. When introduced she immediately made me feel welcome...& our friendship blossomed from there. She loved decorating her work area for the holidays, & Halloween was definitely a favorite. She was always the first person to send me a greeting card for a holiday or special occasion. Leigh loved turtles & the color purple. She had a fun sense of humor but pulled no punches if something were not to her liking! She valued her family & her church congregation & had a caring heart for those fortunate enough to be her friend. I will forever value our friendship...& will forever miss her. My love to Leigh´s family, now & always...

My condolences to Leigh's family. I knew her from High school. She was a year ahead of me and we did have one class together. She was a lot of fun and we will all miss her.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of Leigh. She was a great co-worker at Family Alliance and certainly made my job as the Day Program Nurse much easier. Though we only worked together for four years until I retired in 2018, we kept in touch. Cole was definitely the light of her life.

Growing up in a small community is always difficult when dear friends pass. Her mom Max and my mom grew up in Union and classmates and best friends.
Wish I could be there. Pass my love on to Max
