Leroy Fitzgerald, 90, of Huntley passed away peacefully at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin on Friday, November 17, 2017.
He was born April 26, 1927 to Michael and Amelia (Drendel) Fitzgerald. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntley. At the age of 8, he moved to the farm in Huntley with his parents and lived on the same farm for 82 years. He was a dairy and crop farmer. On November 10, 1956 he married Louise (Obenauf) Fitzgerald. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1955.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Mary (David) Reece of Algonquin, and Ann (Paul) Ostrander of Marengo; four sons, Michael of Fon du Lac, WI, Edward (Shari) of Crystal Lake, Dale (Lisa) of Belvidere, and David of Algonquin; along with nine grandchildren, Amy, Kristie, and Jennifer Reece, Jenna (Jake) Talbert, Bryan Ostrander, Eion and Conor Fitzgerald, and Jessica and Sarah Fitzgerald; three great grandchildren, Hunter Vincent, Lana and Alex Talbert.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Teresa Louise; and sister, Celestine Seisser.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road in Huntley. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main Street in Huntley with a wake service at 7:45 pm and will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 to 9:45am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial masses in his name may be made to the church or to St. Mary's Respect for Life.

My heart goes out to you all.....
I have many fond memories of knowing Leroy and he was actually my first boss.
Though my family had known he and his family for years, I began helping with baling hay at about 14.
I quickly learned what hard work was and never forgot that ethic from the farm.
So many great stories for such a little space so I'll leave you all with this..
My prayers to an everlasting Father for your comfort through this loss.
Louise, Mike, Mary, Ed, Ann, Dale, David and all of your extended families... many blessings and God's comfort to you all...
