Lois Marie Ulander of Antioch, Illinois entered into Heaven on December 23, 2023. She passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Richmond, Illinois.
Lois was born on June 17,1930 in Hector Minnesota to Linton and Esther (Schwarzkopf) Person. She grew up on the family farm and attended Hector High School where she graduated as class Valedictorian and was voted Homecoming Queen. After graduation, Lois went on to earn her RN degree at Minneapolis General Hospital. This is where she met George Ulander of Stanley, Wisconsin. They married in 1954 and had five children together; Kirk, Kathi, Sheryl, Susan and Sheila. They eventually settled in Palatine, Illinois. Lois and George divorced in the early 1970's.
Lois was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Palatine and also a member of the United Women in Faith (UWF). She worked at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village as an RN in the Intensive Care Unit for decades and retired in 1997.
After retiring, she spent the first few years being the caregiver for her youngest infant granddaughter, Noelle, while her daughter Susan was at work. She enjoyed their time together immensely.
Lois eventually moved from the big family home in Palatine to a small home in Antioch, Illinois where she spent her remaining years enjoying church, her bible, volunteering, reading, bird watching, and endless games of Yahtzee with her daughters.
Lois was a strong and independent woman. She was kind, loving, caring, and selfless. She is missed dearly by her loved ones.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Frances McCampbell and her brother Neal Person. She is survived by her children Kirk (Kathy) Ulander, Kathi Ulander, Sheryl Shreeves, Susan (Ronald) Dusenberry, Sheila (Michael) Ruffner. Grandchildren Jeremy Ulander, Robert Buntenbach III, Rachael (John) Monaco, Sarah (Joseph) Krysiak, Jason Shreeves, Katie Buntenbach, Jennie (Jessie) Cobian, Noelle Fenwick and numerous great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Antioch on Saturday September 28 at 11:00 am; visitation at 10:00 am. The second memorial service will be held in her hometown at the First United Methodist Church in Hector Minnesota on October 5 at 11:00 am, followed by a lunch at church and burial at the Hector Cemetery.
