Lorraine W. Murphy, age 103 passed away peacefully on August 25, 2022 in McHenry, IL. She was born on May 14, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Edward John and Agnes Elizabeth Ryan.
She married her beloved husband Edward W. Murphy in Oak Park, Illinois on December 25, 1945.
Lorraine was Postmaster of Wonder Lake for 27 years. She was a long-time member and volunteer at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, in McHenry as well as a charter member of McHenry VFW Auxiliary Post #4600. In her free time Lorraine enjoyed baking, crafting, knitting, and gardening but foremost she loved spending time with her family. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her grandchildren Heather Cole and Melissa Lambrechts; her great grandchildren Aurora and Zachary Murphy;
her daughter-in-law Sue Murphy; her sisters Dolores Montgomery and Gloria (Richard) Lowe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward W. Murphy; her son Dennis E. Murphy; her parents Edward and Agnes Ryan; her sisters Charlotte Ten Bruin, Dorothy Swanson, Reineldis Ryan; her brothers-in-law Ralph Ten Bruin, Clyde Swanson, Bruce Montgomery.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry IL. Funeral Service will begin at 7pm at the funeral home chapel. Private burial will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock, IL.
