Mark Elmore Obituary

Mark A. Elmore
Born: July 31, 1950
Died: February 11, 2023
On February 11, Mark A. Elmore of Crystal Lake, IL, after a long battle with MSA-P, Multiple System Atrophy, Parkinson's type. He was born on July 31,1950, in Springfield, IL, to Robert J. Elmore and Louise P. Elmore (nee Luisa Flamini), who predeceased him.
He moved to Arlington Heights in the summer of 1966 and graduated from St. Viator's High School there. From there, he attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. After a year abroad studying at Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris, France for his fourth of the five years in the Architectural Engineering program (where he met his future wife), he graduated in the spring of 1973. On November 24, 1973, Mark married Pamela A. Wozniak in Buffalo Grove, IL. Four years and one child later, they moved to Crystal Lake, IL. What followed was the founding of his business in 1982, two more sons and many years of love and laughter.
Mark was a notable local architect. Work included several Chicago area churches. He was unfailingly upbeat, and was a tireless volunteer: soccer coach, former president of the Illinois Solar Energy Association, president of the Crystal Lake Jaycees, 1985-86, a McHenry County zoning board member, chairman of the City of Crystal Lake economic development committee, involved in numerous charitable fund-raisers for the library and others, and offered his services pro bono to many local school organizations and charities. He made the most of his life.
He was a lover of a good dad joke (and instigator of many), an eclectic array of music, and ANYTHING sweet.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Pamela Wozniak Elmore, his selfless sons, Christopher A., Timothy A.(Heather), and Ryan A. Elmore, his cherished brothers, Michael R. (the late Connie) and David C. (Sue) Elmore, and countless nieces and nephews who he always tried to make laugh.
Visitation is 4 to 8pm Friday, Feb. 17 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Funeral mass is on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10am, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the MSA Coalition online.

Mark did many architectural drawings for various building projects we did in Lake and McHenry counties WAY back. His office back then was on Rt. 14 just N. of 176. My sincere condolences.

I was sorry to hear about Mark's passing. Great guy with a community spirit and a love of history. Many of his architectural blueprints are part of the McHenry County Historical Society's collection.

Dear Pamela, Christopher, Timothy, Ryan, Michael, David, and Family,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus at Saint Viator High School, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community. Know that you are in our prayers as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate the life of your husband, your father, your brother, and the love you shared.

As I read the obituary for this man who was clearly loved by his family, I was reminded of an adaptation of a reading from the Book of Sirach.

Let us praise an illustrious man,
faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
he has left us his good name,
and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of him....
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.

We appreciate the fact that you listed Saint Viator in Mark´s obituary notice. We want you to know that we are proud to "claim" Mark, a "notable architect" and "tireless volunteer"... "who made the most of his life," as an alumnus.

We will remember Mark and celebrate the fact that he continues to be a member of our community at our Alumni Memorial Mass next November in the Alumni Memorial Chapel. Information about this gathering is available at SaintViator.com in the Alumni section. Next October we will order a plaque with Mark´s name to prayerfully honor him, along with other deceased alumni from Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary, on a wall in the chapel. Also, Mark´s name will be listed in the "In Memoriam" section of the spring issue of our news magazine.

May God´s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge that your husband, your father, your brother, lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope!

Take care and God bless you with those gifts you most need!
