Michal Ann Finney DeWolf Russell, born on March 6, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at Peace Health SW in Vancouver, WA.
The daughter of William L. Finney, Jr. and Dorothy Stockdale Finney, Michal Ann grew up in Illinois and graduated from Woodstock Community High School in 1957. During her school years, she was an active participant in sports, particularly field hockey, and was a proud member of the Rainbow Girls. She went on to attend Northern Illinois University.
Michal married and raised four children. After her divorce, she moved to Florida, where she pursued her interest in genealogy. She became an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Michal was also a talented knitter and crafter who found joy in creating with her hands.
Michal is survived by her brothers, William L. (Karen) Finney, III, and John Finney; her children: Cynthia Jane (Jeff) Rodstrom of Elburn, IL; William Arthur DeWolf (and former daughter-in-law, Lisa) of Port Richey, FL; Jennifer Ann (John) Astholz of Henniker, NH; and Richard John (Anne) DeWolf of Portland, OR. Michal had seven grandchildren: Jessica (Brian) Shriner; Erik (Audrey) Rodstrom; Elisabeth Clary; Elena (Ivan) Catalan; Cori Ann (Collin) Olsson; Collin (Shannon) Astholz; and Chloe Astholz. She also had seven great-grandchildren: Dominick, Kaleb, Lilyana, Eleanor, Evan, Henry, and Hunter. Michal is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews as well.
In her later years, Michal enjoyed living with Richard and Anne in their home in Portland. She found peace and happiness spending time with friends and enjoying nature at Mt. Hood and Willapa Bay.
