Nicholas Schmitt Jr. Obituary

NORTH CHICAGO – Nicholas Neal Schmitt Jr., 58 of North Chicago and formerly of Fox River Grove, passed away at the North Chicago VA Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1954, in Napa, Calif., the son of Nicholas N. and Joan (Holloway) Schmitt Sr.
Nick is survived by his mother, Joan; three siblings, Ronald Schmitt, Paul Schmitt and Margaret (Robert) McCann; and nieces and nephews, Amanda Schmitt, Garret McCann, Michael McCann, Marcus McCann and Jacob McCann.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Thomas Schmitt.
He was a retired Marine. His hobbies included woodworking, ceramics, arts and crafts and raising tropical fish. He enjoyed karate and owned numerous belts.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral Mass celebration at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 410 First St., Cary.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. John Nepomucene Cemetery.
