N.V.R. Raju Obituary

N. V. R. Raju, M.D.

Born: May 30, 1949; in India

Died: October 22, 2017; in Crystal Lake, IL

N. V. R. Raju, M.D., age 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at his home in Crystal Lake, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

He was born May 30, 1949 in India, the son of the late N. V. A. N. Raju and Suryakanthamma (Penumetsa) Raju. The oldest of four children, Dr. Raju excelled both academically at Andhra Medical College in his hometown of Vizag, as well as athletically on the cricket field, where he played both for his University and the Ranji Trophy.

After graduating from medical school in India, Dr. Raju came to the United States where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, and his fellowship in Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Raju practiced as an interventional cardiologist at Centegra Hospital-McHenry (formerly Northern Illinois Medical Center) and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock (formerly Memorial Hospital, Woodstock) for over 30 years.

Throughout his career, patients were his passion and work was his enjoyment. He touched many hearts with his compassion and treated many cardiac ailments with his clinical skills. He was very active not only in the local community but also in the hospital administration serving on many committees.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; he treasured the moments he spent with his grandchildren the most. He was liked fondly by everyone and remains in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife, Rama Devi; his three sons, Mahesh (Priya), Bharat (Angela), and Pradeep (Jenna); his seven grandchildren, Sahana, Ilina, Dhilan, Riyan, Karsin, Kaia, and Avaanya; his mother, in India; and his brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Service and ceremony to follow.

Out of all the physicians I have ever had the pleasure of working with in my career as Registered Respiratory Therapist, Dr Raju was the most compassionate, caring, knowledgeable and supportive. He always would ask me what I thought whenever we worked together in caring for his patients. To be respected by an individual like Dr Raju was truly an honor. I will miss him dearly.

My deepest condolences to all of Dr. Raju's family. Dr. Raju saved my father's life a number of times at Centegra Hospital in Mchenry and was truly a compassionate, caring man and physician. He was always honest with my family when discussing my father's condition and truly cared about my father as a person and not just a patient. He was an outstanding cardiologist.

Dr. Raju was an exceptional man. Our community was blessed to have had this man as a cardiologist for so long. I will miss him greatly. He was a superb physician while also remaining was a consummate gentleman - a difficult combination in today's world. He worked tirelessly for his patients and performed with exceptional skill. Few doctors worked as hard as Dr. Raju.

I will miss him as a friend and colleague. As a fellow physician, I had a close working relationship with him and I consider that it was my great fortune to have known him.

May God Bless you always, Dr. Raju.

My father, Dr.Neuchiller, was mentor to Dr.Raju in the early years of his practice here. Dr.Raju once told me that he regarded my father like a grandfather and my father, similarly, held Dr.Raju in high esteem and considered him a dear friend.
Dr.Raju would later save my father's life.

Years after that, Dr.Raju stood with my sister and myself by my father's bedside during his final hour, relaying memories of their time together. His presence with us in that moment eased our pain. We will always be grateful for his kind words and gentleness that helped us through that difficult time.

Dr.Raju will be greatly missed, but he will always be remembered.
God speed in your journey over, Dr.Raju.

Dr. Raju--I will miss you deeply. I remember you talking about how you made your children do the "wall chair" as a punishment when they were not good. You shared with us laughter, and you shared with us your intelligence your skills and your compassion. I heard from a patient at Lake Forest that you had fallen ill last year. I will always remember doing rounds with you ( and staying in the room to make sure the patients understood your beautiful musical accent ). My favorite of all is that you would call me "Laura, RN , how are you today?"in that beautiful voice of yours. I am blessed to have known you and to have worked with you at NIMC 1993-2009 volunteering with you at the free clinic on Green St. My deepest sympathy to your family. Laura Pamay

I never had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Raju. I know that he was a truly amazing father and physician, however, because I do have the pleasure of working with his son, Dr. Mahesh Raju. I have heard that he is much like his father which is a huge compliment. We have all hoped and prayed for the senior Dr. Raju these last, many months. May he now rest in peace. May his family treasure the memories of him. Good Bless!

I will miss Dr Raju. I learned a lot from this kind compassionate man. I enjoyed working along side him in ICU at NIMC. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing my sister and I as nurses working with him. My prayers to his family❤Sincerely Ginger Morton RN

I was privileged to have known and worked with Dr Raju as,a nurse in ICU, Telemetry, and the Cath lab. He was not only a skillful cardiologist but also one of the most compassionate physician I knew. He cared for my mother, brother, and husband. I felt honored that he called me a friend.

I had the great privilege of working with Dr. Raju for 17 years. Dr. Raju was a dedicated and passionate physician. He was selfless in his time he gave to Centegra and his patients. He truly loved what he did. Words cannot explain how kind and gentle of a soul he was. Dr.Raju took me under his wing as a new graduate nurse and never stopped teaching me as I grew in the field of Cardiology. He took the time to know everyone, his patients, their families, and all those he worked with. I loved seeing him take pure joy in becoming a grandfather. He would come by daily to share pictures and stories of the time he had shared with them. He was also so proud of his boys and what they had accomplished. You will be forever missed in the Heart Center. May you rest in peace.
