Sharon Bankson

Sharon Ann Bankson, a beloved, compassionate, and kind-hearted soul, passed away on Oct. 27, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on Mar. 20, 1946, in Belvidere, IL, Sharon grew up on her family's farm in Marengo, IL. She attended Riley School, then Zion Lutheran School, and graduated from Marengo High School. During her high school years, Sharon worked at Yum Yum Dairy Bar and later secured a position at Arnold Engineering after graduation. In the late 70s, she met her husband, Bill Bankson. The couple moved to Huntington Beach, CA, for Bill's work, where they enjoyed visits from family, trips to the beach, and excursions to Vegas. In the mid 90s, they returned to Marengo to be closer to family. They eventually moved in with Sharon's parents to assist in their care, alongside Maria, a caregiver from Ukraine, while they lived in the downstairs apartment. Sharon and Bill remained happily married until his passing in 2014. Sharon had a passion for cooking, although Bill often took the lead in the kitchen. She acted as the family photographer, taking hundreds of pictures of the people she loved. She adored her German Shepherds and cherished spending time with her relatives, playing with the children, and engaging in family games like pinochle. She did nightly devotions with her parents to keep growing in their faith. Known for her sense of humor, Sharon would playfully announce, "Here comes trouble" when someone entered the room. Her caring nature was evident in her constant smile and willingness to help others. Even in memory care, she was known for assisting with tasks like pushing wheelchairs and cleaning tables. Sharon will be forever missed by her siblings Norman (Jane) Meyer, Connie (Jack) Wesson, & Scott Meyer; her nieces and nephews Kim, Mike, Jeff, Todd, Kate, Craig, Aaron, Will, Wynn, Whitney, Kelsey, & Maddie; and many other beloved friends and family members. She joins in heaven her husband Bill Bankson; her parents Stanley & Adeline Meyer; and her sister Sandy Ferreri. Visitation will be held on November 8, 2025, from 9am to 11am at St John's Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St, Union, IL. A funeral service will follow from 11am to 12pm. The committal service will take place at 12:30 pm at the City of Marengo Cemetery, 101-199 N East St, Marengo, IL.
