William Brand
Born: April 26, 1929 in Chicago, IL
Died: November 6, 2021 in McCullom Lake, IL
William "Bill" Brand age 92 entered heaven surrounded by family on Nov 6th 2021 at his home. William was born on April 26, 1929 to Adam and Anna (Lindveig) Brand in Chicago IL. William was the youngest of nine children, as he grew older he found his career as a master mason but music was his passion. Bill and his brother Kenny won the Morris B Sachs amateur hour contest. As operatic tenor he could sing in five octaves, and in 3 languages, and he also taught himself how to play the guitar. At one point he made 45 rpm different records that were on jukeboxes in the taverns around town. A second passion of his was telling stories to others. His memory of names, dates, and details of events astonished all who cared to listen. During his retirement he loved taking long walks, reading, going to church, helping family and friends with projects around the house and writing poetry. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play in their sports and was one of their biggest fans. Bill is survived by his four sons, Bob, Gary (Marilyn), Nelson, and Roger (Michelle); stepsons Scott, Chad and Chris; nine grandchildren, Dan, Jason, Ryan, Kristin, Joann (Chris), Karl (Shannon), Dakota (Ryan), Cameron, and Emma; Step grandchildren Amanda and Stephanie and ten great grandchildren Parker, Finn, KJ, Hannah, Aiden, Jade, Benjamin, Andrew, Legend & Ozzy. Also, the Love of his life, Luann Beager. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. A memorial gathering will be at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. So very sorry for your loss! Such a sweet, genuine and gentle man! As a little girl (65+ years ago), I had such a huge crush on him - he was sooooo handsome! And his voice ... he sang like an angel (seriously, forget Bing Crosby!). I was so excited and blessed to be able to participate in his 90th (?) birthday dinner up in Richmond and being able to hear his beautiful voice once more, as he serenaded people in the restaurant. I remember asking him, while we waited outside the restaurant for our table, where and how he got the faded old tattoo on his forearm, thinking it would be a great story tied to a memorable event during his military service. We were all shocked to learn that when he was about 11 - 12 or so, he had simply earned some money (back then, maybe 50 cents) and decided to get the tattoo from some "amateur" in his old neighborhood. Anti-climactic, but that´s what made it so very funny, and we all had a good laugh. My deepest sympathies to you and your families. He was truly one-of-a-kind
