William "Bill" Cornue

DAPTO TOWNSHIP, NSW, Australia – William "Bill" Cornue, 71, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Dapto Township, NSW, Australia.
He was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Elkhorn, Wis., to James and Evelyn (Wissell) Cornue.
He and Margrit Stocker enjoyed their home, "The Old Schoolhouse," in Dunmore, Australia.
He graduated from Alden-Hebron High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He worked as a milk tester for the local milk association during his younger years.
At age 25, he moved to Australia and enjoyed an adventurous life "down under," where he herded sheep, mined for opals and worked on a construction crew clearing trees for utilities in the Outback. His entrepreneurial spirited thinking led him to own and operate an ice cream shop on Bondi Beach and to make and distribute "meat pies" to Sydney pubs. In the 1980s, he was nominated for Australian inventor of the year. His passion for rugby earned him a job as a sports writer covering rugby for a local newspaper while he played rugby as a member of a local team. He loved gardening and put his talents to use at The Old Schoolhouse. His farming background led him to enter an Australian rodeo as a bull rider, which lasted for a mere three seconds.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn of Hebron; his sisters, Judy (Elof) Borgeson of Hebron and Pam (Dick) Bebber of Brimfield; and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his loving family in Australia, Margrit Stocker and their two daughters and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, an infant brother and sister.
Services are private. Memorials may be given to the donor's favorite charity.
