Janine was a positive force in racing her website is a tribute to that. She was more than helpful to me and her advice was intelligent and welcome. I am shocked by her loss and hope the Lord gives her family and friends a way to bear this horrible pain. She will be missed and rightfully so.

The sad news of Janine's death shocked all of us who knew her because of her work at the Chicago racetracks. She was a wonderful presence in the Press Box - unfailingly pleasant and always eager to provide help to one and all. She will be missed.

I extend my heartfelt sympathy to her sisters and brother.

Although I neverhad the opportunity to meet Janine in person I had so very much respect and admiration for her. She will be missed by all of us at against slaughter and on the Facebook. I never knew how geographically close we were (i was at one time an east Chicago resident). My deepest and most sincere condolences to her family. Although my heart is heavy I know that Janine will be leading the charge when the day finally comes that no horses will be sacrificed to the horrors of slaughter. Rest in peace dear friend. I am so honored to have known you. Terri, Union Mills, IN (formerly of Valparaiso).

Dear family and friends of Janine Starykowicz

I was and am a horse racing fan and I rekindled my love of thoroughbreds thanks to Janine. We met many times with other horse friends. I knew Janine to be a passionate woman on many fronts, but I guess you all know about her drive and passion already. I am so sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences. Her passing leaves a void in many people's lives far broader than you may imagine.

My most sincere condolences to Janine's family for their loss.

Janine was a kind person and not just an equine advocate: she was a true hero and a warrior for the horses. She was instrumental in the passage of the Illinois horse slaughter ban; she was always there for the horses.

Dear Janine, your friends from Against Slaughter and UTAS won't forget you.

We will not quit, we will not stop until the horse slaughter carnage is over for once and for all.

Rest in peace Janine. Thank you for being there for the horses and for being a voice to them during all these years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
