Alan R. Faulkner
Nov 20, 1953 - Oct 11, 2025
Alan Faulkner, 71, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on November 20, 1953, Alan lived a life marked by honesty, humor, and generosity. A proud graduate of Harvard College (Economics), and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (Juris Doctor), Alan practiced law for more than 40 years, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues and clients alike.
He began his career with Saul I. Ruman in Hammond, Indiana, later joining Friederich, Bomberger, Tweedle, and Blackmun, in Highland, Indiana, before co-founding Clegg and Faulkner, P.C. in 1998 - a practice built on integrity, loyalty, and love in the basement of his home in Hammond, Indiana. Over the years, he also served the City of Hammond as an Assistant City Attorney and Civil Referee, roles in which his sharp legal mind and even-keeled judgment earned him deep trust and admiration. In 2023, Alan retired fully to spend more time at baseball fields and hockey rinks, or traveling to National Parks with his family.
Beyond his professional life, Alan was devoted to his community. He volunteered countless hours as Treasurer for Edison Little League and served nearly a decade as President of the Board of Directors for Montessori Children's Schoolhouse in Hammond, Indiana. His quiet leadership and honesty left a lasting mark on both organizations - and on the many families he befriended through them.
Alan's greatest joy, however, came from being a husband, dad, and Papa. He was a fixture at every game, activity, and event his kids and grandkids participated in - never missing a chance to cheer them on. He proudly served as the official scorekeeper for the 13-0, World-Famous C League Reds of Hessville Little League, a title he held with great pride and distinction.
As his boys grew older, Alan's dedication only grew stronger. He traveled the country to make sure he saw every college football and college baseball game his sons played in - never missing a kickoff or first pitch. Whether in the stands or on the road, he was always their biggest supporter.
Outside the office and the ballfields, Alan found happiness in life's simple pleasures - sharing laughs around the bridge table, cheering on his favorite teams (the Buckeyes and the Bears), getting lost in a good book, or sharing a meal with friends.
Alan will be remembered not only for his steadfast honesty, kindness, and quick sense of humor, but also for the way he made every person he met feel valued and at ease. His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on through his family, friends, and the community he helped strengthen in so many ways.
Alan was preceded in death by his father Patrick Faulkner and mother Irmgard Metge Faulkner. Alan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcia Clegg, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership; his sons, Ben and Dan (Victoria Chan), who carry forward his warmth, wit, and commitment to community; his cherished grandchildren, Cash (9), Miles (5), and Zoe (1 month), who brought fun and excitement to his later years; his two sisters Beth Faulkner and Laura (Jack) Faulkner-Becker; and his nieces Anne (Travis) Swenson, and April (Jason) Rosche.
A visitation service will be held on Friday November 21st from 4 pm to 7 pm, and a Celebration of Alan's life will be held on Saturday November 22nd at 11 am at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, Indiana. Friends are encouraged to join the family prior to the service at 10 am for fellowship and storytelling. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, or the National Park Foundation.
