Albert Bodie Obituary

ALBERT BODIE HAMMOND, IN
Albert Bodie, age 94, of Hammond, IN, born August 5, 1920, passed away July 7, 2015. He is survived by two daughters: Kathleen (Ronald) Johnson, and Mollie Bodie (Jim Bohenek), both of Hammond; grandchildren: Ron Johnson and Kelli Johnson of Schererville; "other daughter", Charla (Mike) Waxman; caregivers: Pat Huffman and Ellie Wiktorowicz; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne (Myron); parents, Louis and Barbara; siblings, Joe, Molly, Louie, Jim, and Irene. Al was born on Oak Street in North Hammond where he lived as a child. He remained in North Hammond his entire life. Al attended Irving grade school and graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1939. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and fought in the South Pacific in WWII on the LSC(L) 3-30 as a gunner's mate 3rd Class, from 1944-1946. In 1943 he met his sweetheart Jeanne at the bowling alley and married her in 1944 in Vancouver, Washington, right before heading off to war. They were married for 69-1/2 years. As a child, he and his family worked together to shell pecans for Queen Anne Candy Company. Al was a precision machinist and worked at Pullman Standard, Screw Conveyor, Lake Baler Co., Arlo Mfg. Co., Valrecon, and the Westinghouse Co., where he retired at age 70. In his younger years, Al enjoyed bowling and playing cards, and was the family "barber", cutting everyone's hair in his father's basement! He also was co-owner of Bodie's Watch Rebuild with his brother Joe, and repaired many watches! He loved going fishing for white bass in the springtime with his brother, and then again every July 2 for 2 weeks to Eagle River WI. with his family, where he made many friends on Big Bass Lake. Al went to Pine Street Presbyterian Church his entire life until it closed in 2004, and then attended First Church of Christ in Highland. In 1965 AL joined the Garfield Masonic Lodge #569, and was presented with his 50 year Gold Award this past June. He also was a long standing member of Orak Temple Shrine where he was a member of the Director's Staff, riding in countless Hammond parades on his little mini-bike. He also worked the Shrine Circus for many years, and was a very faithful Shriner. Al was a member of the VFW Post #1563, the LSC (L) 1-130 Museum, and a life member of the Chicago South Shore American Legion. He was a wonderfully loved husband, father, grandpa, son, uncle and friend to so many. His 94 years on earth were very blessed. Al was the Patriarch of the Bodie family and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Ron and Kathy, we both want to offer our most sincere and saddest condolences. Mr. Bodie was a fine gentleman and someone who always made me happy when I was around him. His jokes and mostly his smile were second to none. I know he was a big part of your lives and will be sorely missed. As we know no matter what age its always tough to loose your DAD. Our prayers will be with all of you and will be glad to help in any way. See You Soon
