Alda M. Vellutini, 96, passed away at St. Anthony Majestic Care, on Saturday, November 15, 2025.Alda is survived by her niece, Georgette (Arthur) Fairchild of Crown Point; nephew, George L Carroll, Jr. (Kathleen) of Arlington Heights, IL, niece, Janet (Christopher) Gilson of Baden, PA, nephew, John (Charlotte) Carroll of Winter Park, FL and niece Julie (Thomas) Ball III of Malvern, PA; beloved great nieces and great nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ovidio and Lina Vellutini and her sisters, Iole M. Vellutini and Elsa M. Carroll.
A lifetime resident of Crown Point, Miss Vellutini attended St. Mary's School and graduated from CPHS. She attended Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana and Indiana University.
Alda was employed 40 years in the Lake County Assessor's Office, serving 25 years as the Chief Deputy. She was a member of the Indiana County Assessors Association, International Association of Assessing Officials and held a Real Estate License. She was elected Vice-President of the Young Democratic Clubs of America, the first person from Indiana elected to national office in the YDCA; elected an Indiana Alternate United States Presidential Elector; and elected two terms as National Committeewoman of the Indiana Young Democrats during the Kennedy-Johnson Administrations. She served as Campaign Co-ordinator and member of statewide (Indiana) committees for U. S. Senator Birch Bayh, Governor Matthew Welsh and Governor Roger Branigan for whom she hosted local, county and state receptions. Additionally, she served in elected offices as Precinct Committeeman, Crown Point Democratic City Chairman and Delegate to Indiana State Conventions. After retiring from Lake County Government service, Alda served as a member of the Crown Point Plan Commission and of the Board of Zoning Appeals in Crown Point. In 2001 Alda was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O'Bannon for over 50 years of dedication to public service.
Alda was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Crown Point, the Crown Point Hospital Authority and lay board member of St. Anthony Medical Center. She pursued legislation to create the Crown Point Hospital Authority, enabling the establishment of St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, a past Director of the Crown Point Community Foundation, a member of the Crown Point Development Council of the University of Saint Francis and a lifelong member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 20, a member of Innsbrook Country Club as well as a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church.
Alda's commitment to her family exceeded her service to her community as she cared for her parents and sisters when they fell ill. Her devotion to her nieces, nephews and their children was never-ending.
Geisen Funeral home is conducting a private service for the family at St. Matthias Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial per Alda's wishes. Interment will follow at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery, Crown Point, IN.
