Alvin J. Scolnik, 86, of Munster, IN passed away on Wednesday November 7, 2012. He is survived by Virgene Scolnik, his wife of 42 years; children: Steve (Elena) Scolnik, Glenn (Donna) Scolnik, Dianne (Leonard) Richardson, Kelly (Tim) Milan, Andrea (Michael) Olson, and Steven (Joan) Stevenson; grandchildren: Doug, Whitney, Leo, Keith, Dawn, Heather, Lexie, and Mark; special great grandchildren: Hendricks, Katie, and Teddy; Dylan, Aidan, and Ellis; Ava, Ella and Asher; Jackson; Madelyn and Brayden; Catherine, Zach, and Connor. Al was preceded in death by his parents: Sam and Jeanne (nee Mishne) Scolnik; and brother, Sanny. Friends may meet with the family on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. in Griffith, IN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Conger officiating. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Al was a WWII Army veteran who served in the European Theater. After the war, he entertained the troops under the famous director Arthur Penn while stationed in Germany. He retired from Inland Steel as Superintendent of Wage & Salary Administration. He was the owner and operator of V&A Antiques, which was his livelihood and his passion. Al earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Executive Program. He taught in the graduate program at IUN and PUC. Al was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and a lifelong avid White Sox fan.
