Arlene Blahunka Obituary

Arlene Blahunka HIGHLAND, IN - Arlene Blahunka age 76 of Highland, began her journey Home on Monday, March 5, 2018 after her struggle with Cardiac Amyloidosis, a rare, non-curable blood disease. Loving mother of Sue (John) Peters, Bill Blahunka, Dave (Cindy) Blahunka and Jim (Tammy) Blahunka; Eleven beloved grandchildren, Dan (Pam), Emily (Brian), Seth (Mallory), Cecilie, Foster, Amanda, Isabel, Krista, Harrison, Emmett, and Evan; two precious great-grandchildren, Benny and Sophia; sister, Nancy Tkach; brother, Rich (Mary Anne) Matis; sister-in-law, Jeanne Blahunka; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; three special grand-dogs, Chewy, Boots and Scarlett. Preceded in death by her husband, Ted Blahunka; parents, Pete and Helen Matis; brothers-in-law: Greg Tkach, Steve Blahunka and Al Blahunka; sisters-in-law, Sophie Blahunka and Mary Blahunka. Arlene was born September 18, 1941. After graduating from Indiana University (Bloomington), she taught English at Harding Jr. High, St. Francis De Sales, Block Jr. High and IU Northwest. Tutored at the Carmelite Home for Girls in East Chicago and was a Religious Education teacher at Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland. She especially enjoyed cooking, baking, golfing, reading, playing her violin and setting off on new adventures with her children and grandchildren. Arlene was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 beginning with prayers at KUIPER FUNERAL HOME (9039 Kleinman Road Highland, IN, 2 blocks South of Ridge Road) at 9:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM at St James the Less Catholic Church (9640 Kennedy Avenue Highland, IN) with Rev. Keith M. Virus officiating. Interment to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Catholic Cemeteries, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the St. James the Less Church-St. Vincent DePaul Society. Online condolences may be left at: www.kuiperfh.com

My most sincerest condolences to the family of Ms. Blahunka. She was my teacher at Block Jr High over twenty years ago and I still remember her positive words that she would share before each test. What an amazing lady! Rest well Ms. Blahunka!

My condolences to the family. Losing a loved one is a very difficult experience. It sometimes helps to lessen the pain by keeping close in mind and heart all the fond and fun memories of her and reflect on them often. Look to the God of comfort and he will sustain us.
