Carole Cobble Obituary

Carole J. Cobble

December 11, 1930 - December 7, 2023

HOBART, IN - Carole J. Cobble, of Hobart, IN, passed away peacefully in her home, December 7, 2023, surrounded by her family, four days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in LaPorte, IN, on December 11, 1930, and moved to Ainsworth (Merrillville), IN, in 1934. She graduated from Merrillville High School in 1949.

Carole is survived by sons: Brian Cobble (Loretta), and Dean Cobble (Maggie); grandchildren: Mary E. Cobble, Lucy J. Cobble, and Grace L. Cobble. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 72 years, Dale Cobble; parents Cecil R. Tonagel and Ruby R. Tonagel; and brother, Donald Tonagel (Rosalie)

She attended Valparaiso University before going to work at the NIPSCO field office in Hobart, IN. She commanded and gave much love and respect in her roles as a passionate and devoted wife, mother, superstar grandmother, caregiver, and CEO of their longtime residence at 205 South Pennsylvania Street in Hobart.

Carole spent countless Wednesday afternoons with the Women's Bowling League at Hobart Lanes as a dedicated team member of the Chip-N-Charmers. Determined to give back to the community she loved, she spent 18 years serving on the Hobart Plan Commission. On each and every Election Day, she could be found volunteering at one of the polling stations located throughout Hobart.

A dedicated swimmer, she was an early member on the Board of the Hobart Community Pool Association and was a longtime supporter of the Hobart Family YMCA dating back to the construction of its pool in the mid-60s. A lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Hobart, she particularly cherished her position in the choir behind the alter where she could look out into the congregation and offer a stern look to anyone, particularly her boys, who weren't paying attention.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 654 E. 4th Street, Hobart, IN, 46342, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W. 73rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN, 46410.
