I met Chris in the late 70's at Eggers Middle School. Chris matured much faster than anyone else at our school so in 7th grade he was almost 6 feet tall with facial hair. On the first day of school in 1979 one of the new teachers did not realize Chris was 12 years old so she approached him and asked for a date. Chris was such a good kid...he actually told her he was a student (needless to say, the teacher was really embarrassed).
Chris ran over to our group and told us what happened. We laughed for several minutes but then I told Chris his appearance should be viewed as a super power that would allow him to boldly go where no 7th grader has ever gone before. He did not take my nefarious advice, but it still makes me smile today when I think about the crazy things that happened at school in the late 70's and early 80's.
It's difficult to believe Chris is gone, but I just wanted to share one of the 'Chris Chronicles' from our youth to let the family know how much he meant to us growing up in Hammond.

To the Entire Schutter Family:
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Chris's passing. I met Chris way back when he was an apprentice with Local 697. We always enjoyed a chuckle on our brief meetings at the school. He was a good apprentice and a better electrician. It was my pleasure to have know him. He was surely taken too soon

I was very saddened to hear about Chris's passing. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his family. As a former classmate at Eggers Middle School & Hammond High I can remember Chris being so smart with a corky sense of humor with a huge smile on his face with his shiny braces. He was taken too soon and will be missed dearly. I will be keeping his family in my prayers through this difficult time.

I was very saddened to hear the news about Chris. I'll always remember him as a warm, funny, supportive big brother type of guy who always willing to do anything to lend a hand or get a laugh. Our family's thoughts are with you all.
