David Kowalczyk Obituary
David Frederick Kowalczyk, age 23, of Schererville, IN, passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 while at Community Hospital of Munster, IN. Born November 27, 1986 in Munster, IN, he was the son of Frederick and Kathleen (nee O'Neill) Kowalczyk. David was a Sophomore at Purdue University of Calumet, pursuing a degree in Education. He was also a parishioner of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church of Schererville. He loved the great outdoors, fishing, his three pet rats: George, Tweak and Sasha, and especially had a love of music. David was known by many as the drummer for local band "Stubborn Attitude." His presence will be missed and his memory forever cherished by all who knew and loved David. Surviving to mourn his passing are parents: Fred and Kitty Kowalczyk of Schererville, IN; grandfather, William F. O'Neill of Sun City, AZ; brother, Eric (Dayna) Kowalczyk of Chicago, IL; six aunts and uncles: Wayne (Pamela) Kowalczyk of Union- ville, CT, Marianne (John) Levinskas of Melrose, CT, Paul (Kris) Kowalczyk of Thousand Oaks, CA, Erin (Frank) Wozny of Brookfield, IL, Shane (Susan) O'Neill of Joliet, IL and Peggy (Carl) Davis of La Marque, TX; six cousins: Alicia Wozny, Rachel O'Neill, Ella O'Neill, Caroline Levinskas, Michael Kowal- czyk and Daniel Kowalczyk as well as many friends. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his grandparents: Wally and Gertrude Kowalczyk and grandmother, Elizabeth R. O'Neill. The family invites relatives and friends to visit Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (1/2 mile South of US 30), Schererville, IN on Monday, December 7, 2009 from 2:00- 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 1 Wilhelm St., Sche- rerville, on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. by Father Martin Dobrzynski. At rest privately, per his wishes. Memorial gifts in David's name may be made to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, 1233 20th Street NW, Suite 402, Washington, DC 20036. You are on my mind... it is your birthday, and it seems like yesterday I got the call from your parents announcing your arrival on Thanksgiving Day. And it seem like yesterday when you showed me how to make music on the computer. And it seems like yesterday when I was on my road trip and you welcomed me and we had such a great visit (I didn't even realize you had friends in the basement).

Last night I lite a candle and put it next to your framed picture for your birthday. I like to think you already know that. I'll never forget the day I picked up my pack of photos only to find the same picture of you copied over and over almost every other photo was you. Haha and the look on your face when you showed up to the party where I was handing out shots and that picture to everyone. We had some great times. Hi my David
I signed this guest book on Christmas day and received the message that it might take up to 24 hours for it to appear. That was 192 hours ago, so we'll give this another try. Your Grandpa forwarded something to all of us that made me think of you and your Grandma. It's a poem that a friend of his who recently lost his spouse sent everyone, and it's called "I'm Spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this Year."

Hi my David
I can't believe how powerful and raw emotions can still be after 7 years, I miss you so much. There are times, tho, that a memory will make me laugh out loud. Remember Reaper's Rhelm, the haunted house at Calumet and the Borman? Dad and I passed it on our way home yesterday and I remembered the time you, Eric, Aunt Erin and I were going thru the woods on the way in and being chased by people dressed like Jason with chainsaws. Eric was running around like crazy trying to avoid them, but you were just walking with me with a firm grip on my hand telling them that they couldn't touch you because you had lawyers. I wish I could remember exactly how old you were then, I know it was early elementary school age.
Lots of "David stories." Wish you were still here making more stories.

I remember the Christmas you helped Ella with a microphone she received. It needed triple-A batteries (which she had in her stocking) and a phillips head screwdriver to access the battery compartment, and you had it ready for her in no time. It just seemed normal that she would go to you.

David- Yesterday was Ryder's first birthday. We took him to the park and he ran all over, played in the dirt and climbed-all boy! I can't help but think of you every time I see him especially when he is with your brother or the girls. He already knows his name is Ryder David and knows that if I say that he better pay attention. He ignores us when we just say Ryder but the minute your name comes out he stops what he is doing. 5 years is coming up soon, the sooner it comes the harder it is to believe. We all love you so much and talk about you every time we are together. I tell Ryder stories of when we were kids. Miss you Cuz!

Hi my David
I'm thinking of you as I'm watching the Blackhawks play another outside game, this time at Soldier Field against the Penguins. It's unusually cold for March, it's even snowing, the fans are freezing but having a great time. Reminds me of you and Dayna a few years ago at the winter classic at Wrigley Field.
Seabrook just put one in our net, the Penguins are laughing, and it's 3-1. Hopefully we'll hold on and win this one.

Hi David
I just returned home from church and the mass that was in memory of you. I lit a candle, we talked, I visited your brick on St Mike's memory walk, and we talked some more. But then, you already knew that.
When your dad and I first moved to Indiana, we were out with friends celebrating one's "golden birthday." I was puzzled because he was no where near 50, and it was explained to me that a golden birthday happened when the age was the same as the date of birth. I had never heard that before.
