Dorothy Hart Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Hart

May 2, 1931 - March 8, 2025

Dorothy (Kauff) Hart was born in Huntington, IN on May 2, 1931, and passed away March 8, 2025, in Portage, IN. She was married to Gene E. Hart, also from Huntington, on October 25, 1952. They had four children, Laura (Neal) Baird (Zionsville, IN), Ted (Debra) Hart (Lake Station, IN), Tony Hart (Portage, IN) and Linda Hart (Porter, IN). She had 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Gene, sisters Helen Cavenaugh and Marilyn Griffith and grandchild, Schaun Baird.

Dorothy was the best mom, mother-in-law, grand mom, sister and aunt anyone could ever hope for. She was great fun and enjoyed playing games, especially bridge, euchre, scrabble (with BFF Karen), and cards. She liked reading, crosswords, fishing and watching sports. Dorothy loved to garden.

When all her children were in school full time, she began her career in the mortgage industry. She retired as Vice President of Lake Mortgage Company and resided in Cloverdale, Indiana.

A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be at Gelsosomo's Pizzeria in Chesterton, Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

I am so blessed to have been raised by such a wonderful mother. So many great childhood memories of the beach, water skiing, fishing at the lagoon, my parents welcoming all our friends in Aetna. Our cruise to the Bahamas. Our visits to Cloverdale. Our family gatherings on the holidays. My mother was a non-judgmental, fun loving, kind soul. She was known for the greeting cards she would send to her extended family. She left this world a better place. Love you Mom.

To my childhood friend Laura except we called you Susie.
My heart hurts for you and your family. I remember many wonderful days spent down at your house. Your mom always welcomed all of us girls even to spend the night with you.. She will not be forgotten by me for the love she showed us.
