ELIZABETH E. DERR "BETTY" KOUTS, IN Elizabeth E. "Betty" Derr, 88 of Kouts passed away Friday, February 5, 2016. She was born April 6, 1927 in McKeesport, PA to the late James and Elizabeth (Gross) McKelvey. Betty was a member of Mulberry Tree Church, Kouts and the American Legion Post 380 in her hometown, Dravosburg, PA. She was a homemaker and wonderful caregiver. Since May of 2013, Betty considered Avalon Springs, Valparaiso as her home and its residents and staff her family. On September 6, 1946 Betty married Charles W. Derr who preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her children: Karen S. (Vernon) Nuest of Kouts, and William C. (Terri) Derr of Niles, MI; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two brothers: William E. Backus of Titusville, FL and Richard E. Backus of Monongahela, PA. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: James R. and Robert L. McKelvey. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Kosanke Funeral Home 105 E. Indiana Ave., Kouts with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
