Gavino Galvan Obituary
Gavino J. Galvan, Sr., age 81, passed away on September 19, 2011 at the Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, IN. He was born to the late Conception and Gaudalupe Galvan on February 19, 1930 in East Chicago, IN. Gavino leaves his five loving children: Gavino Jr. (Kim) Galvan, Veronica (Brian) Letica, Tony (Chris) Galvan, Cecilia (Dean) Huddleston and Kenneth (Vikki) Galvan; grandchildren: Tahana Letica (Jason), Brian C. L. (also Godson), Kenneth, II and Lauren, Joshua, Jacob, Hailey, Hunter and Joseph, great grandchildren: Nicholas, Kaitlyn and Cassidy; brothers: Lupe (Irene) Galvan, George (Gloria) Galvan, Carlos (Pat) Galvan and Raymond (Stella) Galvan; one sister, Mary (Robert) Martinez; and several nieces, nephews and other loving family members. Preceded in death by his beloved son, Christopher; brothers: Rudy and Albert; sister, Eva Sanchez. Gavino retired in 1992 from Inland Steel with 42 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #508, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Knights of Columbus Council #9114, Portage and he served in the U.S. Army, 1952. Gavino was a faithful member of Nativity of Our Savior Parish in Portage, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 5:00- 9:00 in the Main Chapel at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408 (219) 980-5555. Mass service will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nativity of Our Savior Parish, 2049 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN. Committal service will be at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN. Gabby will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted family and dear friends. God Grant Him Eternal Rest

Condolences to the Galvan Family...You lost a "good one". I got to know Gavino while we both worked at Inland Steel. Although we were on opposite sides of the table, Gavino was always very professional and I respected him...we became good friends. May Gavino RIP.

My Dearest Friends,
Words alone cannot express our sympathy on the untimely death of your beloved father and friend. To say that his time with us was far too short is an understatement. The reality is that he will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.
No doubt the outpouring of sympathy you have received since his parting has been of some consolation. Hopefully it will serve as a reminder to you of how well-loved and liked he was.
I hope that you and your family will find peace and comfort in knowing that his suffering is over and that his just rewards await him.
