GEORGE EDGAR Obituary

GEORGE H. EDGAR EAST CHICAGO, IN

George H. Edgar, born June 25, 1929 in East Chicago, IN, passed away surrounded by family on January 6, 2017. George was 87 years old. George was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School (Indiana), where he met his future wife, June A Rollo. They were married on August 22, 1953. Beforehand, he joined the US Navy from 1951 to 1953, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Indiana University on June 11, 1956. From there, he worked as a Personnel Manager at Rand McNally in Northwest Indiana, then moved to Elgin, Illinois in 1967, taking a Personnel Manager position at Flexonics, Inc. From there, with three other partners, George helped form a management-consulting firm, Alpha Associates that successfully operated from 1973 to 2002. He retired at age 72. George and June were married for 63 years, leaving behind four children: Roxanne Ellis, Coleen Costin, Doug Edgar, and Madalyn Kalning; three son-in-laws: Steve Ellis, Patrick Costin, and Gregory Kalning; a daughter-in-law, Diane Edgar; twelve grandchildren: Kara, Kris, Kate, Kurt, Sean, Brittany, Tynan, Mitchell, Matthew, Marshall, Zachary and Elizabeth; and three great grandchildren: Cameron, Amelia, and Walker. George was an avid baseball fan as well as a player for both East Chicago High School and the American Legion, a passion that he would later pass on to his grandson, Zachary Edgar. Both George and Zachary won State Championship Titles with their respective American Legion Teams. George was also a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and was very excited to celebrate them as the 2016 World Series Champions. George stayed active well into his mid-80's. He was loved by all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They cherished the many-many times they were together. Nothing was more important to George than his family and religion. He was a long-term parishioner at St Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin. His legacy with family will always remain. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the American Legion Post 57 Baseball Club at 1357 South Madlock Ct., Elgin, IL 60123. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of mass. My Uncle George was a witty, charming and passionate man. He had a great sense of humor and a caring heart. He was my mother's brother and they shared a bond that is forever. Their love of music was a tie to their past and present. I will miss him so very much.

Our prayers are with your family during this very difficult time. It was always a pleasure to see George at home and church, talking about family and the world, and joking around. Their marriage is an example of what it should be about. The family has the best marriage/family role model you could get. The kids, grandkids, have a lot to live up to. Anyone in life to have met George has been blessed. A man of principals and morals. Of course, behind every great man, is a great woman. (Did I say that!). Best to all of you. Keep smiling! That's what he would want.

Our family will miss Uncle George. He was always quick to joke and give me a big smile. I remember flying to Chicago to stay with Madelyn at age 10. I was SO nervous but Uncle George's warm and loving heart made me feel right at home.

The last time I saw him was the at the condo in Coronado Shores with my boys. Again he greeted us with a warm smile and a joke:)

Uncle George you will be forever missed.

All our Love,

I remember my godfather, Uncle George, showing me how he threw a curve ball and other breaking balls with a wiffle ball in the backyard in Richfield, Minnesota. As a small boy, I could not hit his "stuff" but I loved being with him! He was a good man with a great sense of humor and a zest for life! My sincerest sympathies to my godmother, Aunt June, and the entire extended Edgar family! A loving godson, Greg
