GEORGE A. ERICKSON BREMEN, IN George A. Erickson, age 91, former Munster Town Board President and Amoco executive, passed away on March 18, 2017. He was born on July 4, 1925 to Edwin Erickson and Constance Erickson in Jersey City, NJ. A mechanical engineer graduate and valedictorian of Stevens Institute of Technology; George later earned his MBA at the University of Chicago. He served in the Navy during World War II and met his future wife, Marilyn Johnson, after the war while stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago. George and Marilyn made Munster their home in 1956 and had three children: Mark, Lynn, and Phil. He was a founding member of the Ridge United Methodist Church. The church and the congregation were of enormous importance to him. In addition, George served several terms on both the Town and Park boards; coached little league; was a boy scout leader, mentored underprivileged children, and volunteered at many charities. After Marilyn's death in 1980, George married Elizabeth McCue Parker and was happy to include Betty's four children in his family. George was preceded in death by his wife: Marilyn; his second wife: Elizabeth; and his brother: Martin. He is survived by his three children: Mark A. Erickson, Lynn (Jon McKesson) E. Erickson, and Phillip A. Erickson; also his four stepchildren: Lynn (Karl) Seering, Judy Parker, Cheri Clarke, and Mike McCue; 12 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be on Friday March 24, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN with a service at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Concordia Cemetery Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's name to Ridge United Methodist Church in Munster, IN.
